The Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers (CGIAR)

CGIAR (The Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers) is a global partnership that unites international organisations engaged in research on food security. Funded by its members, CGIAR aims to reduce rural poverty, increase food security, improve human health and nutrition, and attain sustainable management of natural resources. CGIAR consists of 15 centres that collaborate with partners from national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia and the private sector. The CGIAR Fund provides reliable and predictable multi-year funding to enable research planning over the long term, resource allocation based on agreed priorities, and the timely and predictable disbursement of funds. Over 50 years of activity, CGIAR research has led to almost a hundred contributions towards SDGs, over 800 innovations, 283 partnerships, 800,000 trainees and 1,900 publications. CGIAR contributed to such fields as improving the nutritional value of staple crops; pest and disease control through breeding resistant varieties; integrated pest management and biological control; improvements in livestock and fish production systems; genetic resources characterization and conservation; improved natural resource management; and contributions to improved policies in numerous areas, including forestry, fertiliser, milk marketing, and genetic resources conservation and use.
